Top seed Ugo Humbert is the champion of the American Express Istanbul Challenger TED Open. The World No. 72 from France defeated fifth favourite Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan 6-2, 6-2 in Sunday’s singles final of the $81,240 ATP Challenger hard-court event.

Humbert, who only dropped one set en route to the title match, was in total control of the encounter. In front of about 3,000 spectators on Center Court at the Ted Sports Club, the 21-year-old Metz native struck seven aces and won 89 per cent of his first-service points to secure victory in one hour and 17 minutes.

“I am very happy that I won. It was a great tournament. Thank you to everyone who contributed,” Humbert said.

By lifting his fifth ATP Challenger career trophy, his second of the season following his triumph on home soil in Cherbourg, Humbert collected in Turkey $10,800 in prize money as well as 90 ATP Ranking points. The #NextGenATP player will return to the ATP Tour next week, playing in front of his family and friends at the Moselle Open in Metz.

On Saturday, Andrey Golubev and Aleksandr Nedovyesov from Kazakhstan were crowned doubles champions after they had received a walkover in their scheduled match against Marek Gengel and Lukas Rosol from the Czech Republic. Gengel was forced to withdraw due to a right calf injury.
