Donskoy Clinches Third President’s Cup Trophy

Evgeny Donskoy is the champion of the $135,400 President’s Cup. The top seed from Russia defeated US-American teenager Sebastian Korda 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-4 in Sunday afternoon’s final held on the hard courts of the National Tennis Center in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.

Donskoy struck eight aces, winning 69 per cent of his first service points to prevail after two hours and 15 minutes.  By lifting his 12th trophy on the ATP Challenger Tour, his third in the Kazakh capital, the World No. 115 collected $18,000 in prize money as well as 110 ATP Ranking points.

For 19-year-old Korda it was a special week, making it into his first ATP Challenger final, knocking out three seeded players en route to the title match. Last year’s Australian Open junior champion rises 75 spots to a career-high World No. 307.

On Saturday, Andrey Golubev and Aleksandr Nedovyesov beat the all-South Korean team of Yunseong Chung and Ji Sung Nam 6-4, 6-4 to clinch the doubles title. The local favourites finished the encounter after one hour and five minutes.
