Laaksonen Lifts Roma Garden Open Trophy

Henri Laaksonen took the title of the Roma Garden Open held on clay-courts at the Tennis Club Garden. The No. 4 seed from Switzerland battled past the No. 17 seed Gian Marco Moroni of Italy, winning 6-7(2), 7-6(2), 6-2 in Sunday’s singles final.

Laaksonen defeated Peter Heller from Germany as well as Italians Matteo Viola, Salvatore Caruso and No. 2 seed Paolo Lorenzi en route to the title match of the €46,600 ATP Challenger tournament.

The 27-year-old Swiss saved six of the eight break points he faced and broke Moroni’s serve four times to prevail after two hours and 54 minutes.

By lifting his fifth ATP Challenger career trophy, his second of the season, Laaksonen collected €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP-Ranking points.

On Saturday, Philipp Oswald from Austria and Filip Polasek of Slovakia won the doubles title without hitting a ball in the final. The top seeds received a walkover from Nikola Cacic of Serbia and Adam Pavlasek from the Czech Republic, who was forced to withdraw from the match due to a right elbow injury.
