Domingues Dominates On Home Soil

Joao Domingues is the champion of the second edition of the Braga Open. The No. 13 seed from Portugal came from a set down to overcome Facundo Bagnis of Argentina, the No. 2 seed of the €46,600 ATP Challenger clay-court event, on Sunday morning.

Domingues capitalized on seven of his 10 break point chances to secure a 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-3 victory in on two hours and 14 minutes. In the pair’s third meeting, the 25-year-old from Porto celebrated his second win over Bagnis.

“This title is very special, the support of the spectators was fundamental,” said Domingues. Following his maiden triumph in Mestre 2017, Domingues hoisted his second ATP Challenger trophy. He earns €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP-Ranking points.

“Joao was the better player today but enjoyed my stay here in Portugal,” Bagnis stated.

Later in the day, Gerard Granollers of Spain and Fabricio Neis of Brazil took the doubles title. The top seeds defeated Kimmer Coppejans from Belgium and Zdenek Kolar from the Czech Republic 6-4, 6-3. The encounter lasted one hour and eight minutes.
