Carlos Berlocq has ended his season by lifting the trophy at the $50,000 Rio Tennis Classic held at the Rio Country Club in Ipanema on the last day of the ATP Challenger Tour season. The fourth seed from Argentina benefited from the retirement of Spain’s #NextGenATP player Jaume Munar, leading 6-4, 2-6, 3-0.

The 20-year-old from Barcelona struggled with cramps and was forced to end the match after two hours of play.

“I’m very happy for the week, I played some good matches here. It was a pity that I did not feel well in the final and couldn’t leave with the title,” told Munar.

Berlocq notched his 18th ATP Challenger crown and draws level with Go Soeda for fourth on the all-time list. The Argentine veteran earns $7,200 in prize money as well as 80 ATP ranking points.

“It was a very mental game, I do not know, but I was very nervous,” Berlocq said. “It was an internal fight to play great tennis, but I managed to do so and won the first set. In the second set I lowered the level a little and in the third set I started very well, attacking right from the beginning and I felt that I would have good chances of winning the third set, even without him having given up. The end of the match was a misfortune.”
